My Homeopathic View of Thyroid Care
By Topper (Linda)
I'm all for avoiding drugs,. I use vitamin C and peppermint tea for colds, flu, infections, etc...
I wasn't thrilled when I lost my gland and was facing taking a pill every day for the rest of my life... but well... it's really all in how you look at things..
A Very, Very Simple Definition of Homeopathy
The use of natural things... herbs, vitamins, foods, lifestyle.. used to help the body to better function in a natural way without the use of drugs.
can be caused by a LOT of things
Failure of other glands
Failure of other body functions.
The most common cause of thyroid dysfunction is auto-immune. No one, so far, has determined what triggers the auto-immune response or how to reverse it.. yet. Though there are very strong links between excess intake of iodine being a consistent trigger in those taht are genticially prone to developing Hashi's
I hope one day they will find either a preventative or a cure..
With me so far?
If you have determined what is causing your gland to be unable to produce sufficient hormone to keep you healthy, and well.. and it is determined that either the cause of the under active gland is not reversible and/or there is sufficient damage to the gland to make it impossible for the gland to be able to recover sufficiently to be able to produce hormone..
Then you need to deal with the end result:
insufficient hormone levels to keep your body healthy and well.
Find another source for the hormone that your body needs to be healthy
We commonly refer to Synthroid and Armour and all the other types and brands of thyroid hormone replacement as medicine... and the pharmaceutical companies call them medicine to keep them under their control, and keep the money coming into their pockets, but when you get to the nitty-gritty of it...
Replacement thyroid hormone is not a medicine…
it's replacement thyroid hormone!!!
From my point of view..
When I take a dose of thyroid hormone, I'm not taking a medicine. I'm not adding anything to my body that is foreign to its natural state... I'm adding to my body the hormone that it is no longer able to make itself.
One aspect of Homeopathy is adding things to your system, by way of ingestibles, that allow your body to better function without actually altering anything with a chemical.
I use natural thyroid (Armour, Thyroid-S, and a half dozen other brands that are all natural). Natural thyroid, basically, is a tabletized form of freeze-dried thyroid gland. It's got naturally made hormone (produced inside a living being, not a chemist's beaker), trace minerals and enzymes and all kinds of goodies.. that naturally come from a thyroid gland.. things that I can't get from my own gland any more....
So even though I, too, sometimes refer to it as a med.. cuz that is what everyone commonly says.. I don't consider it so much a medicine as a natural form of replacement for something my body needs to be healthy.
Part of how I came to this way of thinking has to do with all the years that I was soo sick cuz my body wasn't able to process hormone.. I was popping pain pills all the time.... There is a HUGE difference, to me, between taking handfuls of pain pills to mask pain.. and providing my body with replacement hormone... One was only a medicinal mask of symptoms (symptoms are the body's way of telling us something is wrong and needs to be fixed) and the other is giving my body what it needs to do things correctly in the first place. Once the body is able to function properly, it doesn't have to exhibit symptoms to tell us something is wrong.
I also do supplements and vitamins and have changed how, and what, I eat and drink... all to support and assist how my body works NOW. I can't do gallons of pop a day.. or skip meals all day and wait till night-time.
It's been over five years since I started taking care of my new body and learning to live together with it instead of taking a 'drug' to alter something.
I know I'm whacky .. but it works for me...
